In October, Saina had announced her wedding with a grand reception expected on December 21. Sania and Kashyap first met at the Pullela Gopichand badminton academy where they have been training since 2005. While there were reports of the two dating for a decade, they kept their relationship a secret affair. Both Saina and Kashyap were spotted at public spots frequently and the rumours were rife that the two were dating each other Both were teammates in Awadhe Warriors in Premier Badminton League (PBL).
Film actor Chiranjeevi, Governor E.S.L Narasimhan and Vimala Narasimhan, former cricketer V Chamundeswaranath, owner of Hyderabad Hunters (PBL franchise) VRK Rao and Gopichand were also guests among others.
