Do parliamentarians need minimum educational qualification?
Nelson Mandela once said" education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." This saying clearly portrays what is the significance of education in our lives...
Education is the key which unlocks the door of freedom.. it widens our thinking ability, helps us in taking better decisions in life and helps in understanding problems of people deeply.
1. According to my opinion education is a viable and most important aspect in our current world scenario. We look upon the politician as an able person who can guide us and make proper and appropriate decisions. Most people prefer the politicians to be as their role model. But if the politicians do not have proper academic background ,what impact will it be on the state because it will bring a downfall in literacy rate as most of the people will think that education is an unnecessary subject.
2. Having a good educational qualification will help parliamentarian in taking good, justified and logical decisions and hence he will work in the greater interest of people and will serve country better.
3. An educated politician can easily interact with the people and leaders of other countries and could learn from them and taking examples from other nations , he can solve many problems prevailing in our country like illiteracy, hunger, poverty, gender biasness etc. Education is a must to keep pace with the current world.
4. In the past, we had highly educated politicians like Dr.B.R.Ambedkar and Dr. S.Radhakrishnan who shaped the country's future with their unprecedented efforts and several initiatives. Education is not only meant for gaining knowledge in different fields, but it also develops a personality as a whole which is very important for a politician to run country efficiently.
5. Leadership skills becomes strong through different experiences that a person has had in his life. In order to be a good leader, an individual has to become confident in what he/she is doing. With education, comes these opportunities where you have a chance to nurture your leadership skills may it be by becoming a house captain in school days or a college president while pursuing higher education.
6. It is desirable to make a minimum educational qualification be enforced so that our MLA/ MP may have the ability to comprehend various socio-political issues. Sometimes, the debates in the Parliament and various legislative assemblies’ needs an enlightened and educated opinion. Every time defamatory or derogatory statements and illogical debates disturb the decorum of the house and waste precious public money.
7.Uneducated politician may misuse their power and inspite of thinking for development they will get themselves involved in criminal activities. They would not bother of citizens’ deficiency and problems. They would become corrupt.
8. Although educated and highly qualified people like IAS/IPS officers prepares the policies and programmes of government, but the final decision to implement it and make it a law lies in the hands of politicians. Hence, education is a must for them.
9. Education is a seed for the tree of innovative ideas. If we say that an uneducated is a kind person, He/she can be a better politician for sometime only, As he/she have no basic and innovative ideas about the upcoming future of the country. But if he or she is an educated person he will be able to become a good leader and can understand the problems of people deeply and will solve it according to his or her knowledge and capabilities.
10. Keeping all the above views in mind, Government in Rajasthan and Haryana has made minimum educational qualification essential for contesting local elections.
The judges of Supreme court also upheld this decision of government stating that education will “enable the candidates to effectively discharge duties of the panchayat” and “it is only education which gives a human being the power to discriminate between right and wrong, good and bad”.
